The music of Koo-Koo Boy was called by
one critic "the best damn B-movie soundtrack you ever heard!" Lead singer
Scott Coblio has been described as "a cross between Jim Morrison and Nancy Sinatra". If you can
imagine a bleach blonde man in blue eyeshadow and a dog collar who performs
3-minute, power pop a go-go songs about killer bees, vampire girls, serial
killers, monsters, and more, that's Koo-Koo Boy!
Their first regional hit was
Vampire Girls, a 7" vinyl single, which
topped the college charts in the band's hometown of
Rochester, NY. The song was the B-side of their debut 7" single,
I'm A Monster (nationally distributed
by Dutch East India).
Koo Koo Boy
has been selected to open for such acts as the
Buzzcocks (where they "stole the show" by
one newspaper's account) and in early '94 they opened for NYC's
The Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black.
In a 1995 poll, readers of City Newspaper voted Koo-Koo Boy Central
New York's best band.
They finished the year on yet another list:
WCMF's Top 10 Most Popular Bands. To celebrate, a special 4 song EP was released:
Sixty Miles An Hour.
Now, their first full-length CD
Welcome To Monster Island
is here with over 73 minutes worth of music!
